Brisbane - general information

Brisbane - the capital of Queensland - with the population of over 1.7 million is the third largest city in Australia. The city is located on the Brisbane River, about 25 km (15 miles) inland from the river's mouth at Moreton Bay. The city was named in the honor of the British astronomer and administrator Sir Thomas Makdougall Brisbane.
